Lok Adalat is a people's court set up under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. National Lok Adalats are held four times a year in every district of India, and pending traffic challans are one of the most common matters settled there.
Why settle at Lok Adalat?
- The process is free; there is no court fee
- The amount is often reduced and sometimes waived for minor offences
- An award of the Lok Adalat is final and binding, so the matter is closed
- It saves repeated visits to court
Step by step
- Find your pending challans on the official Parivahan e-Challan portal using your vehicle number
- Check the date of the next National Lok Adalat announced by your State Legal Services Authority
- Register for the Lok Adalat when registration opens (in Delhi this is online, a few days before the date, and slots fill fast)
- Download or note your token or slot details
- On the day, appear (or follow the digital process where available) and accept the settlement amount
- Pay the settled amount only through the official channel and keep the receipt
Documents usually needed
- Challan number(s) and vehicle number
- Copy of RC and driving licence (some places)
- Your mobile number for OTP and updates
If you are busy or find the process confusing, AdalatSaathi can check eligibility, register you and keep you updated on WhatsApp. Our fee is shown upfront and the fine is always paid to the government, never to us.
